The Legend of Grace O’Malley by Tony Lee and Sam Hart

genre: graphic story

I’ve heard about “the pirate queen” since I was a child; my grandfather was convinced that we are somehow related to her through her line, so when i saw this in the library, i grabbed it. It tells the story I am familiar with but with much more detail developing it. I don’t know how much of this is fact, but it tells an interesting story of colonization and warfare and the fight for a much desired piece of land. Grace O’Malley WAS an interesting woman and her audience with Queen Elizabeth seems to be indisputable, and I find that amazing. I found the art to be a pretty good fit for the story, much more “comic” than “graphic novel” but then again, it fits. It’s a violent and battle-filled book, but it was a pretty violent and battle-filled time, so there you have it. I wasn’t impressed, but I found myself interested the whole time.
