Books for Tweens and Teens

I have been collecting tween and teen books on *all things* for many years, for the various schools I have worked at and for my own children. I’m not a doctor, psychologist, or high school teacher (definitely not an expert), but between a shelf full of books with *all things* and hopefully some good communication, I’m going to do my best parenting. of teenage children.

Books give us the words when we don’t have any or want to make sure we say the right things. Books dealing with adolescence, written by authorities in the field, are a much more reliable source of accurate information than their peers or the vast murky, unfiltered sea of information online.

In addition to being written by experts, I also have a personal criteria for puberty books: I like them to be informative, engaging, authentic, and research-based. Below is my list of “must haves” for your tween or teen’s library.

I first gave some of the books below to PudStar with a biome skincare kit and my favorite deodorant in the world (Why didn’t I know about this dry deodorant business a long time ago?!) so I could start a simple face and body routine with no-fuss, ethical products. You mostly just use them to make your side of the bathroom bench look fancy, but just like books, they’re there when you want or need them.

Many of these books seem marketed for a female audience. Publishers make decisions about cover design and content to better position their product in a competitive market. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: books are books and books are for everyone. The information in these books is solid and frankly I think these books could/should be read by all young people. Understanding the way bodies of all stripes work is information we should be putting together everybody our young people with

If you are looking for some books for young children, you absolutely MUST have ‘The amazing true story of how babies are made’ for a totally no-nonsense look at bodies and reproduction. It’s like an updated version of ‘Where I Came From’ and my full review is here. Even for the youngest children, I love board books. ‘The boys will be…’ Y ‘The girls are pretty…’.

Finally…one thing PudStar and I did with a group of friends a while ago was make some of our own skin care products – tweens and teens need to shower and I don’t know about you…

We use some of the books below to make our own lotions, potions, and generally great smelling stuff. The raw products were from Biome’s range of DIY ingredients. here. We had a second day to do *all the stuff* with the cousins and we also did soap and beeswax wraps. Best.holiday.fun.ever.ever and they all smelled amazing.
