Prison Officer Vicky White Found Dead After Police Pursuit

Vicky Whitean ex-corrections officer who helped inmate and suspected murderer, Casey White escape from an Alabama prison, has been found dead.

On Monday, Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear released a statement confirming Vicky’s death, “White died at Deaconess Hospital at 19:06 hrs CST [7:06 PM Central Time]Lockyear’s statement said. “An autopsy is scheduled for 17:00 hrs. tomorrow. Additional information will be available after the autopsy.”

The statement also divulged that the coroner’s office, along with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, and the US Marshals Service, are investigating the circumstances surrounding Vicky’s death.

According to the authorities’ preliminary investigation, they believe the 56-year-old perished after being shot in the head.

Casey and Vicky, who are not related but reportedly were in a romantic relationship, were located on Monday when controversies followed up on a citizen tip that led them to an Evansville, Indiana hotel. The suspects fled the scene, triggering a police pursuit that ended with a car wreck.

Following the wreck authorities discovered Vicky’s body and with it, injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff Dave Wedding of Vanderburgh County asserting that a further investigation is needed to decisively conclude she shot herself. The announcement from Wedding occurred shortly after Vicky was rushed to the hospital.

According to Sheriff Rick Singleton of Lauderdale County, Alabama, Casey was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

Casey was arrested in 2020 on two counts of capital murder for allegedly killing 59-year-old Connie Jane Ridgeway, who was discovered dead in her Rogersville, Alabama home in October of 2015. Authorities characterized the incident as a likely murder-for-hire plot, AL.com reported at the time. Casey pleaded not guilty and was being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

On April 29 of this year, Casey was driven out of the Lauderdale County prison by Vicky, who was employed as the assistant director of corrections at the facility. Authorities claim Vicky told them she was bringing the inmate to court for a mental health evaluation. No such appointment had been scheduled.

At a press conference last week, Singleton said that Vicky “strictly” violated department policy by transporting Casey alone, People reported. Singleton explained that someone charged with murder should have been escorted by two deputies.

It was revealed on Monday that a warrant had been issued for Vicky’s arrest on charges of permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree, forgery in the second degree, and identity theft.

authorities confirmed that Casey had already tried to escape prison in 2020 but the attempt was stymied by prison security.

Casey and Vicky White vanished just two days after the corrections officer filed for retirement. April 29 was her last day of work. The move came a month after Vicky sold her home.
