The news last night and this morning was full of excitement about the French election.
I assume from the amount of coverage that I should be excited about this? I can’t for the life of me see why. Who the French elect is their business and unless the new incumbent were to ban all travel from Ireland then I can only wonder why I should give a flying fuck.
However the elections have once more got me scratching my poor over-scratched head. On one side there is Emmanuel Macron and on the other there is Marine Le Pen From The Far Right. Why did every news reporter keep describing her as “From The Far Right”? Macron wasn’t ascribed any description or direction – Far Left, Left, Center, Up or Down – why not? By the tone of the reporting “From The Far Right” is some kind of curse, so it was like they were referring to Marine Le Pen The Cunt. So much for impartial reporting?
I looked up “far right” but that wasn’t much help –
Far-right politics, also referred to as the extreme right or right-wing extremism, are politics further on the right of the left-right political spectrum than the standard political right, particularly in terms of being authoritarian, ultranationalist, and having nativist ideologies and tendencies
So Far Right is further Right than Right? Is that right? And what lies beyond that? It can’t be Extreme Right as that is apparently the same as Far Right. Ultra Right? I can understand that Right isn’t Left as that would make driving very dangerous particularly with a SatNav.
I don’t know where the “authoritarian” bit fits in. Is this the Nanny State? And surely “ultranationalist, and having nativist ideologies” just means looking after the nation and its natives?
Anyhows, our mob seem to be delighted that Macron won.
That is a real cause for concern.
